"I can't sue everyone on Twitter" - TV host Gabby Logan speaks out about superinjunction rumours

BBC presenter says that she will do all she can to protect her family, but that policing the internet is too difficult. She denies claims that she had an affair with Alan Shearer.

TV HOST GABBY LOGAN Logan is the latest celebrity to speak out about the superinjunction scandal, saying she has suffered after lies were told about her and her family.

Logan, who presents the BBC show Final Score and who is married to former rugby star Kenny Logan, was forced to deny that she had an affair with ex-footballer Alan Shearer, after rumours circulated that she has taken out an injunction to stop news of the liaison from emerging.

Logan is one of several celebrities speculated about, after a Twitter user attempted to unmask those who had taken out superinjunctions to keep their secrets under wraps. Jemima Khan was one of the most vocal, insisting that rumours that she tried to block the publication of intimate photos of her and Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson were untrue.

Gabby Logan says she can’t sue everyone on Twitter over the lies. She says the newspapers knew that what they were publishing was untrue, but that the superinjunctions mean that people are constantly trying to guess who is involved.

Wikipedia was also targeted by those trying to unmask the truth behind the gagging orders, with the entries of high-profile celebrities suspected of hiding behind superinjunctions being edited to expose them.

The UK Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt has promised to investigate how privacy regulations can be improved saying:

Technology, and Twitter in particular, is making a mockery of the privacy laws that we have and we do need to think about the regulatory environment that we have.
