People are very mad that Joan Rivers was left off the Oscars In Memoriam reel

The comedian, who was long associated with the Oscars red carpet, died in September of last year.

FANS OF THE late comedian Joan Rivers are very upset that she was not included in the Oscars In Memoriam segment last night.

Rivers died in September 2014 after suffering complications during a medical procedure.

The comedian has long been associated with the Oscars, famed for her cutting remarks on the red carpet gowns and for being one of the first people to utter the now-infamous line: “Who are you wearing?”

Rivers’ Fashion Police co-presenter Kelly Osbourne was among the many people who spoke out about the comedian’s snub on Twitter:

But Joan Rivers was not the only high-profile star to be ‘snubbed’ – Vulture reports that others left out of the segment include actress and comedian Elaine Stritch, ex-Bond villain Richard Kiel, and Taylor Negron, best known for his role in Fast Times At Ridgemont High.

Some people have put forward that the fact that Rivers was not a member of the Academy made her ineligible for inclusion in the segment:

The Academy addressed the omission of Joan Rivers in a statement to Buzzfeed:

Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year’s Oscar show. She is, however, included in our ‘In Memoriam’ gallery on Oscar.com.

Mashable has made up a card for Rivers in the style of this year’s In Memoriam tributes:
