September 2017: Ellen executed her very best scare.
Reminiscing on Sarah Paulson’s very first scare on The Ellen Show, Ellen kept Sarah occupied while somebody crept up behind her to give her a fright. It didn’t end there. While she was recovering, another guy in a clown costume jumped out of a box in the studio and Sarah wept, speechlessly.
Sarah Paulson crawling under the table and screaming is easily one of the funniest daytime TV moments of the last decade. How on earth did this woman work on American Horror Story?

October 2017: Ellen sent Sarah Paulson to a haunted house.
At least she knew what she was in for this time. That didn’t make things any easier for her.
May 2018: Ellen used the ’5 Second Rule’ game to scare the shit out of Sarah Paulson once again.
Sarah really didn’t see this one coming. She was so upset that she walked away and climbed into the box that the clown had previously jumped out of, while shouting:
This is the worst place ever. I’m not coming out.
January 2019: Sarah finally tried to scare Ellen back.
It didn’t go to plan. The 23rd of January 2019 was supposed to be the day that Sarah Paulson finally got revenge on Ellen, and Ellen was ready for it. While Ellen was introducing the day’s show, Sarah crept across the studio barefoot, in the hopes of remaining silent.
When Sarah screamed “GAAAGH!!” in Ellen’s ear, Ellen wasn’t that phased. In fact, she was prepared for it, and has gotten one of her crew members to hide in camouflage to scare Sarah while her guard was down during the prank. Needless to say, Sarah was very upset and also pretty disappointed.
They told me you weren’t gonna be ready for it! I thought I did a good job. This isn’t… I just really hate it here so much. This is horrible. Do you not agree?
Aaaaand, she ended up getting scared herself.
In that very same episode, Ellen decided to invite Sarah Paulson to play a really difficult version of her Heads Up! game, in which the actress did impressions of a Russian yoga teacher, Cher trying to hail a taxi and a Cockney person ordering a Starbucks. While she was super distracted by the game, Ellen launched another attack.
