HE ONLY WANTED $10, and now he’s got $1,370.
Zack Danger Brown started a Kickstarter funding campaign – not for an invention or an album or a charitable cause… for potato salad.
He wasn’t promising much:
And he was realistic about the risks:
Slowly but surely people got on board, and soon he was able to stretch his goals depending on how much money he made.
- $35 – Four times as much potato salad
- $75 – A pizza party
- $100 – Two different potato salad recipes
Before long though, those goals were surpassed and new goals were set.
- $250 – Better mayonnaise (from the natural foods selection)
- $300 – Call a chef to get a better recipe
- $350 – Make way more potato salad and probably do a third recipe.
Of course now that the fund has skyrocketed, the sky is the limit.
Two hundred and seventy eight people have pledged money, with 23 big spenders giving $25 or more. For their troubles they’ll get:
…a potato salad themed hat along with a bite of the potato salad, a photo of me making the potato salad, a ‘thank you’ posted to our website and I will say your name out loud while making the potato salad.
Other pledgers will receive things like their name carved on a potato to be used in the potato salad, a potato-salad themed haiku etc.
Brown has also specified where the potatoes will come from (his local supermarket) and that the pizza party will, inexplicably, not feature potato salad.
Now, we must away to get our wallets to donate to this marvellous cause.
