FAT FROGS, SMILEY bars, Woppas – all delicious sweets of our childhoods, lost to the sands of time.
But the snack that evokes a particular fondness is King Crun-chos, ‘American style’ hot dog-flavoured crisps shaped like knobbly little sticks.
Though Crun-chos haven’t been in shops for donkey’s years, they’re still widely remembered as ‘hot dog flavoured bags of euphoria‘.
They’re even depicted in the history of Irish crisps at Tayto Park, as if to taunt us:
The campaign to bring back Crun-chos may just be the longest and most dedicated one going.
A Facebook page called ‘Bring Back Crunchos’ was set up in 2009, and put in three years of hard slog in the name of Crun-chos before giving up the fight in 2012.
Every year since, there have been pleas on social media for someone, anyone, to bring back the hot dog-flavoured corn snacks:
Some are even begging Mr Tayto to whisper in the aul King’s ear:

But could it be possible? Could there really be a day when we can eat Crun-chos again?
DailyEdge.ie contacted Largo Foods (makers of Tayto and King Crisps) about the possibility of a Crun-chos return, to which they replied: “No comment.”
Well, ‘no comment’ is better than a flat ‘no’, isn’t it? We live in hope.
