MAGICIAN PAUL DANIELS has told how he chopped off a finger with a circular saw as he was making props for his stage show in his garden shed.
The 73-year-old had to have his index finger reattached but lost the top of his ring finger in the freak accident, which happened on New Year’s Day.
His left hand hit a spinning blade when a block of wood he was sawing was thrown into the air, the magician said.
“The saw went right through my first finger, missed my middle one almost completely and took the top of my third one,” Daniels told the Daily Mail last night.
“How it missed the second finger is a trick in itself. The top of the third finger is all ground up and gone”.
The entertainer told the Daily Mail that he had managed to drive himself to a hospital near his home in Berkshire, England, where the accident happened.
The accident will not affect his upcoming theatre tour in Britain, Daniels told the BBC . He plans to avoid any magic tricks which he is not physically able to do.
“The tour will go ahead – everything will be fine,” he told the BBC.
The magician has had a bad year for unfortunate injuries.
Last August he needed hospital treatment after he was hit in the head with a pizza which had been thrown by Sooty the puppet.
