Here's your first glimpse at the Maître D' for First Dates Ireland

Meet Mateo.

AS ANYONE WHO watches First Dates will tell you, the show lives and dies by its charismatic maitre d’ Fred Sireix.

(Love you, Fred.)

So when RTÉ2 announced that they were bringing First Dates to Ireland, one of the first things they did was put out a call for a “vibrant” maitre d’.

And it looks like they’ve finally found their man.

Meet Mateo Saina.

RTÉ2 have announced that Saina will serve as maitre d’ for the forthcoming series and will be on hand to welcome singletons from all over Ireland as they prepare to go on the most nerve-wracking blind date of their lives.

Originally from Croatia, Saina has lived in Ireland since 2004 and is currently maitre d’ in Dylan McGrath’s restaurant Taste at Rustic.

Speaking about his role in the series, Mateo said, “I am so excited to be involved with First Dates Ireland.  From my experience, I can tell whether people on a date are confident or not, whether they are nervous, and my job is to help them feel relaxed.”

Everyone that walks into this restaurant deserves a chance to find love, that’s what First Dates is all about. It’s a great feeling to see two people making a connection and if I can help make this happen, then that’s my job done.

So, will Mateo be able to fill Fred’s shoes? Can we expect him to wax lyrical about the power of love every week? Only time will tell.

First Dates Ireland will air on RTÉ2 later this spring.

We can’t bloody wait.
