YOU KNOW WHAT they say, you can take the girl out of Mayo…
Clare woman Órla Derrane has been living in Dubai since 2008, with her friend Laura Evans from Murrisk, Co Mayo following her over in 2009.
Laura is getting married later this year, and last weekend Órla and the rest of her pals organised one hell of a hen for her over in Dubai – on a private yacht, of course.
When Laura arrived to board the boat, she discovered that the hen was Mayo themed, from the ‘Mayo for Sam’ sashes and footballer masks…
…Right down to the drinks in the fridge:
“We took it very seriously,” Órla told DailyEdge.ie.
The ‘Mayo for Sam’ sashes attracted quite a bit of attention from the locals, who had lots of questions about “what the hell that meant”.
We also got her a Snapchat filter for a couple of hours so most of Dubai knew it was her hen, and I’m sure there are a few randomers with pictures of Mayo flags pasted on to them.
Amazing. The pictures caught the attention of Mayo footballer Aidan O’Shea, who gave the party his seal of approval:
Laura is set to wed her Kilkenny beau, Paul, back home in Mayo in July. Congratulations to the happy couple! (And Mayo for Sam.)
