Here are some podcasts that you may have missed in 2016 that you will most definitely want to bookmark for 2017.

1. Maeve in America

Something of a political nerd? The Axe Files features former political operative David Axelrod chatting with some of the most influential political figures in the United States. Think of it as WTF with Marc Maron for political wonks.

5. Get It On with Dawn O’Porter

In which Dawn O’Porter chats to her celebrity friends about what they wear and why they wear it. Guests so far have included Jason Segel, Dawn French and Angela Scanlon. We just wish it came with photos of the outfits discussed.

7. Making Oprah

9. Another Round

Hosted by Tracy Clayton and Heben Nigatu, Another Round is a brilliant podcast that sees the hosts tackle everything from the Dakota Access Pipeline to black hair.

Their 2015 interview with Hillary Clinton, in which they probe her about her support for Black Lives Matter,  is well worth a listen.

10. Criminal

The premise of Criminal is simple: each episode delves into the people at the centre of crimes — criminals, victims, judges, attorneys, reporters — and tells in-depth, thoroughly researched stories that you won’t find on the front pages.

11. Who? Weekly

An always entertaining podcast that fills you in on everything you need to know about the minor celebrities dominating the gossip sites in any given week. Plus they have a weekly segment devoted to the goings-on of Rita Ora.

If you spend your time trying to dissect Fifth Harmony feuds, you’ll love it.

12. Homecoming

A psychological thriller featuring the dulcet tones of Oscar Isaac, Catherine Keener and David Schwimmer. Pretty starstudded, eh?

13. Reveal

Reveal is a podcast from The Center for Investigative Reporting that prides itself on being an investigative podcast. They’ve done in-depth episodes on everything from Stephen Bannon to the Zika virus. If you’re a fan of great, urgent storytelling, then you need to subscribe immediately.

14. Bad With Money

It’s a well-known fact that people hate talking about money, which makes Gaby Dunn’s show all the more enthralling. Each episode sees Dunn interview someone about their personal finances and it’s honestly riveting. 

15. Fair Game

A podcast about Irish women in sport that only went and won Best Podcast Series at this year’s Web Awards.

To date, Elaine Buckley and Emily Glen have interviewed some of our finest athletes including Natalya Coyle, Ciara Mageean and Sara Treacy, and discussed the issues facing elite female athletes, including doping, work-life balance and lack of media coverage.

16. Still Processing
