2017 HAS CERTAINLY been a grim year for all involved. But despite everything, celebrities were still doing the most to keep us entertained. Thanks guys.
1. Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi ad
Remember when Kendall Jenner brought an end to racism and police brutality by offering a cop a can of Pepsi? Ah, us too.
In April, the soft drink company released a remarkably tone-deaf ad featuring the model joining a carefully nondescript protest.
The ad was pulled after a massive backlash, with people saying it was co-opting the Resistance and Black Lives Matter protests to sell soft drinks. Pepsi released a statement apologising to Kendall for putting her in a crap ad:
Pepsi was trying to project a global message of unity, peace and understanding. Clearly we missed the mark, and we apologise. We did not intend to make light of any serious issue. We are removing the content and halting any further rollout. We apologise for putting Kendall Jenner in this position.
Kendall, meanwhile, said on an episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians that she felt like her “life was over” after the controversy. She’s the highest-paid model of 2017, so clearly it all worked out just fine.
2. Prince William dad dancing alone in da club
Wills was on a lads’ skiing trip in Switzerland when he was recorded dancing alone in a Verbier nightclub. He’s giving it socks, god bless.
It wouldn’t have been too exciting only it emerged that he’d skipped a Commonwealth Day service to go on the trip, leaving Kate and the kids at home. The Daily Mail was NOT AMUSED:
The prince’s decision to miss such a key event in the royal calendar will revive criticism that he is ‘workshy’ and failing to knuckle down to his royal role.
Can’t a royal have a wee bop for himself these days? The answer is no.
3. Hughie Maughan’s fake tan disaster on Dancing With The Stars
Just when we needed something to brighten up the dark January evenings, there was Hughie Maughan on Dancing With The Stars, bright as a 100-watt bulb.
The reality TV star is usually quite tanned anyway, but on this particular episode of the show the makeup artists could not convince him to tone it down – he was quoted by the Irish Sun as saying that “you can’t have enough tan”.
You can, Hughie. You really can.
4. Scott Disick’s revolving cast of young girlfriends
Kourtney Kardashian finally ended her tumultuous relationship with Scott Disick this year, and judging by what he’s been up to since, he’s pretty mad about it.
First, he shocked everyone by showing up Cannes Film Festival with 19-year-old actress Bella Thorne – after some strategic photo ops by the pool, Bella made a hasty exit, saying Scott’s partying was “way too much” for her.
Scott admitted that he only hung out with Bella to make Kourtney jealous, but then moved on to Sofia Richie, who is also 15 years his junior. Blech. Stay classy, Scott.
5. Jedward getting harangued by Chloe Ferry on Celebrity Big Brother
Jedward returned to the Celebrity Big Brother house in January, along with Geordie Shore’s Chloe Ferry – she was oddly fixated with John especially, rubbing her bare bum on him while shouting “THIS IS A REAL WOMAN’S BUM”.
John, for his part, cried: “Jesus, what are you doing? What are you doing to us? Oh God, I can’t even look at you right now.”
The latter incident provoked a huge outcry from viewers and fans of Jedward, and Big Brother told Ferry off:
Invading people’s personal space when you’re naked is unacceptable. Big Brother would suggest you refrain from this sort of behaviour in the future.
However, she then proceeded to don a bikini and give him a lapdance. Incorrigible, we believe is the word.
6. The Drake and Josh beef
The Nickelodeon duo almost had us worried. Josh Peck got married in June, but there was no sign of his old buddy Drake Bell at the wedding. And he was miffed about that, let me tell you:

7. Kesha’s desperate attempt to hug Jerry Seinfeld
In summary: Kesha tried to hug Jerry Seinfeld at a red carpet event. Jerry Seinfeld wasn’t up for it. The world cringed.
8. Lindsay Lohan tweeting at other celebrities, just shooting the sh*t
It’s quiet enough for Lindsay Lohan these days – she’s living in Dubai, filming guest spots on UK comedy shows, meeting the Turkish president, you know the drill.
But she hasn’t forgotten that she was once part of Hollywood’s elite, and she’s not letting them forget it either. She’s like, excuse me Jennifer Lopez, why aren’t you following me:

And invited her old friends Britney Spears and Paris Hilton to her birthday party in Mykonos. Poor Beyoncé is an afterthought.

9. Bella Hadid’s absolutely bizarre interview about runners
In October, Nike spokesmodel Bella Hadid offered some shoe advice to any man who might wish to date her.
The whole interview was a cringefest, but this particular moment captured the internet’s imagination:
If homeboy’s coming through with these, [points at a pair of runners] it’s quiet for him. But if homeboy comes through in like, these… You got some Airmaxes out here, you got some Jordans, homeboy is gonna like… get it.
There were lots of questions, such as: WHAT is she on about? Does anyone really say ‘homeboy’ that much? Is Bella Hadid in fact an undercover cop? We don’t know this for sure, but we do know that she is now a meme.
10. And the majestic Ryan Tubridy/Julia Roberts autograph hoax
We’re calling it: This is the best celebrity story not just of 2017, but of all time. It has everything – mystery, intrigue, and a signed headshot of Julia Roberts.
In February, Ryan Tubridy received a special letter from the actress, in which she claimed that an ‘Irish assistant’ told her he was a fan of her work.
‘Julia’ later sent Tubs a Blu-Ray copy of Eat Pray Love and another letter, after which he started to get suspicious, saying he thought he was being ‘catfished’.
As it turns out, his hunch was correct. A representative of Julia Roberts told DailyEdge.ie that the actress had not been communicating with Tubridy, nor does she have an Irish assistant. “It appears Mr Tubridy is the victim of a hoax,” they concluded.
Amazing. Will we ever know the identity of the person who devised this elaborate prank? Maybe not. But we’d like to shake their hand.
