RTÉ looking for participants for another wedding reality show

Are wedding-themed programmes the new interiors/cooking phenomenon for TV?

RTÉ HAS ANNOUNCED that it is looking for participants for a new reality show on… weddings.

Participants will get “a free five-star honeymoon, with a few to-be-confirmed extras thrown in the mix” if they allow their wedding to be shown on television. The twist? They must let their mother and mother-in-law plan the wedding.

The show, produced by Animo TV & Kite Entertainment for RTÉ, does have the potential for some maternal drama (you can email weddings@animo.ie or call 01 6468241 if you want to take part).

But what do you think of the growing trend of wedding-related programmes on RTÉ and other channels? Are they the new interior design/coooking shows? Four Weddings, which began on Sky in the UK in 2009 – in which brides rate each other’s weddings in the hope of winning a honeymoon – is so popular that it has versions airing as far afield as the US and in Australia.

RTÉ has had a number of wedding-related programmes in recent years including proposal show Marry Me (started 2008); Brides of Franc (started 2009 after Franc, aka Peter Kelly, appeared in another RTÉ show, The Wedding Planners); Don’t Tell the Bride, (started 2010), a UK format where where the groom plans the wedding; Franc’s DIY Brides, where brides are taught the “tricks of the (wedding planning) trade”.

Do you watch wedding reality shows?

To help make up your mind, you should probably take into consideration this Australian version of Four Weddings. Gollum? At a wedding reception?
