Star Wars director Rian Johnson heaped praise on Ireland as the best filming location in The Last Jedi

Hard luck, Croatia and Iceland.

IT’S ONLY A couple of weeks before the eighth installment of the Star Wars franchise hits cinemas – so everyone involved have been popping up all over the place as the promotional juggernaut gets going.

Director Rian Johnson was on the trail this week, and arrived into Twitter for a live Q&A on The Last Jedi:

One of the first questions he got in was which filming location was his favourite:

Without any hesitation, he went for Ireland

Last May, filming for The Last Jedi took place in Donegal, Kerry and West Cork – and it really left an impression:

“We shot in some amazing locations. We were in Croatia, we did some shooting in Iceland but I think my favourite spot has to be Ireland. We had such a good time there and all the folks who lived where we were shooting just welcomed us with open arms and the local crew was so cool. I love Ireland.”

At the time, the cast and crew even took out an ad in the Irish Examiner to thank everyone who helped them

The praise was non-stop when they were leaving:

We have been captivated by the landscape of the Wild Atlantic Way, it has provided a spectacular backdrop for our story.
The tireless commitment of our Irish crew, the enthusiasm and support of all the people in West Cork have made our Irish adventure one we will always treasure.

Johnson was also asked to describe The Last Jedi in three words
