WE’RE JUST DAYS away from the release of season three of Queer Eye and we’re already clearing our schedule this weekend to binge the entire season.
Yes, our five favourite gurus are back to help transform a new group of people, but they have some OG TV stylists to thank for where they are today.
Fashion expert Tan France says that Trinny and Susannah served as a huge inspiration for him and led him to where he is today.
“I love Trinny and Susannah – I was obsessed with What Not To Wear,” he told Cosmopolitan.
“I was a massive fan of the show so it makes sense [that it inspired me], it was the show I insisted on watching.”
But Tan wasn’t the only one – for years, Trinny and Susannah told women about the rules of fashion through their TV shows and books.
From the colour palettes we should stick to, to the importance of wearing the right bra, they went through it all, but would they apply today?
We’re taking a look back at their infamous ‘Rules’ to see how they’ve aged?
1. The Intro
According to T&S, we all hate our bodies and have to learn how to disguise ourselves and trick others into seeing what we want them to see.
Only ourselves, our mirror and our gynaecologist (??) should know the real truth, the ladies say.
2. The basics
In this segment, T&S tear each other’s bodies apart and make some fairly harsh criticisms of celebrities, bar tenders and women in general.
Moral of the story? If you have big arms, good God don’t show them off.
3. The Bum
Showing the changing times, T&S spend a solid ten minutes talking about how big Trinny’s bum is and how that’s so unattractive.
They also say that we should aim to have an arse that men want to squeeze… right.
4. The Thighs and Tums
In this video, Susannah calls Trinny’s thighs ‘criminal’ before Trinny smacks Susannah’s stomach and calls her flabby.
Later, Trinny tells Susannah that she shouldn’t wear a fitted dress because her tummy is ‘disgusting’.
5. The Makeup
Firstly, the ladies talk about how unattractive it is when men wear makeup before going on to discuss every flaw that needs covering.
To be fair, they do give some pretty good tips on matching your foundation shade to your skin, but other than that, they rip into Cameron Diaz for her acne and reinforce the disgraceful early noughties messaging that thin eyebrows are better.
They might not have aged well, but at least they gave us Tan, right?
