Imelda May’s New Year’s Eve Special (RTÉ One, 10.20pm)

Imelda previously performed on the Hootenanny – now she’s having her own, and bringing The Corrs, The Strypes, and Gavin James with her.

Gladiator (RTÉ2, 9.25pm)

Russell Crowe won an Oscar for his role as Maximus, a slave who rises through the gladiatorial ranks to avenge the murders of his family.

LA Confidential (RTÉ One, 12.30am)

Crowe also stars in this 1950s-set noir drama about a series of murders in LA. With Kim Basinger and Guy Pearce.

Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2017 (Channel 4, 11pm)

A repeat of the always fun quiz, in case you haven’t seen it – Richard Ayoade, Noel Fielding, David Mitchell and Katherine Ryan are among the contestants. #bfqoty

  • Robot Wars Special 2017: The World Series (BBC2, 7pm) Dara Ó Briain and Angela Scanlon watch on as four past champion robots battle it out.
  • Into The Woods (BBC2, 8pm) Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine star in this adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical.
  • Alan Carr’s New Year Specstacular 2017 (Channel 4, 9pm) Alan is joined by a motley crew of celebs, including Caroline Flack, Keith Lemon, and Kim Woodburn.
  • Mrs Brown’s Boys New Year Special (RTÉ One, 9.45pm) Agnes and Winnie join a neighbourhood crime patrol, with disastrous results as per.
  • Nile Rodgers & Chic: Good Times 2017 (BBC1, 11.20pm) The iconic funk group perform live from London to help you see out the year.
