HE MAY NOW BE something of an international man of mystery – hopping from country to country as he seeks both to keep his WikiLeaks website alive, while also evading rape charges in Sweden – but it turns out that Julian Assange, deep down, is just a man looking for love.
Or, at least, he was four years ago – when he uploaded a profile to online dating side OKCupid in which he sought the interest of women with “spunk, class and inner strength” willing to join him on his travels and in attending “parties with good friends”.
The profile – apparently uploaded in 2006 – was uncovered by users of social news website Reddit, and is attached to the username ‘HarryHarrison’.
As one Reddit user pointed out, that name appears to have been inspired by a science-fiction writer who created the character Stainless Steel Rat – an “intergalactic criminal mastermind” with a conscience who was “too smart to get caught”, popular during Assange’s childhood.
Assange/’Harrison’, who marks himself as being 6′ 2″ in height and a socially-drinking atheist, describes himself as a “passionate, and often pig headed activist intellectual [seeking a] siren for [a] love affair, children and occasional criminal conspiracy.”
He continued:
Such a woman should spirited and playful, of high intelligence, though not necessarily formally educated, have spunk, class & inner strength and be able to think strategically about the world and the people she cares about.
I like women from countries that have sustained political turmoil. Western culture seems to forge women that are valueless and inane. OK. Not only women!
Although I am pretty intellectually and physically pugnacious I am very protective of women and children.

The sometimes-cryptic profile also says its subject was busy “directing a consuming, dangerous human rights project which is, as you might expect, male dominated” and that people often remarked on his “Nordic appearance”.

a spirited, erotic, non-confomist. Non-conformity is not the adoption of some pre-existing alternative subculture. I seek innate perceptiveness and spunk.

Assange also took a number of ‘tests’ offered by the site, which deemed him a ‘strong democrat’, an ’87% slut’ and which scored him at an impressive 85 on the ‘intellectual sexiness test’.
The WikiLeaks founder is currently in a British jail following a court appearance in relation to his outstanding Swedish arrest warrant, having been refused bail on account of his “nomadic lifestyle”.
Potentially interested suitors may be out of luck, however – Assange last logged into the account in the early hours of New Years’ Day, 2007, just weeks after WikiLeaks published its first document.
Unfortunately, it’s likely that the WikiLeaks project has overtaken the search for love in Assange’s mind since then.
