one is not amused

UTV Ireland didn't air Downton Abbey last night, and people were RAGING

The channel doesn’t have the rights to the show (produced by its sister channel ITV) in Ireland.

THE FINAL SEASON of Downton Abbey began last night, but could you settle in to watch the ITV period drama on its sister channel, UTV Ireland? Nope.

The programme was conspicuously absent from Irish TV listings last night, with UTV Ireland opting to air the film Serendipity instead.

No one, and we mean no one, was impressed.

So what’s going on?

UTV Ireland explained to viewers complaining on Twitter that in Ireland, the rights for Downton Abbey belong to TV3, which will not be airing the programme until Tuesday night at 10pm - a spokesperson for TV3 said it was an “internal scheduling decision”.

It’s another blow for the channel – Pat Kenny’s flagship chat show was axed after poor ratings, and audience figures for its main news bulletin are low.

We wonder what the Dowager Countess would have to say about the latest news?
