A TEENAGER WAS lucky to escape without serious injury after more than six feet of sand collapsed on top of him at a beach in California.
Matt Mina, 17, was trapped for around half-an-hour after the sand around a tunnel he was digging on Newport Beach fell onto him, according to KTLA-TV.
Bystanders and emergency teams used anything the could get their hands on to dig him out. Rescuers could hear him calling from seven feet below the surface.
ABC reports that a bucket with a hole cut into it was placed over Mina’s head in order to stop sand going into his mouth.
