What to watch on TV tonight: Thursday

This is the telly everyone will be talking about tomorrow.

DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

Insecure (Sky Atlantic, 10.35pm)

Modern-day black women are often described as strong and confident, however the pair of friends that Insecure follows (Issa and Molly) are quite the opposite. They deal with their own real-life flaws, their insecurities and endless uncomfortable everyday experiences. Tonight opens the second series of the show.

Created by co-star Issa Rae, this critically acclaimed HBO series looks at the friendship of two black women in a unique and authentic way, touching on the social and racial issues that relate to the contemporary black experience.

Godzilla (RTÉ, 9pm)

The 2014 revamp of the American monster film premieres on RTÉ tonight, following Ford Brody, a Navy bomb expert who has been reunited with his family when he is forced to help his estranged father (played by Bryan Cranston). The two men are swept up in an escalating crisis when Godzilla arises from the sea to combat malevolent adversaries that threaten the survival of humanity.

Top of the Lake (BBC 2, 9pm)

Madmen and The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elizabeth Moss stars in the second season of the series Top of the Lake. She is in Sydney, eager to throw herself into her work while secretly planning to search for the daughter she gave up for adoption.

When a suitcase containing the body of a young woman washes up on Bondi Beach an investigation begins that leads to a darker side of Sydney. Tonight’s second episode of the series reveals that the body belonged to a sex worker known only as ‘China Girl’.

Everybody’s talking about… The cancellation of ‘The Middle’

Launched just too close to the time that Modern Family came out, this show never got to take off in the same way. Still… It lasted nine seasons. The fans who enjoyed it, really enjoyed it. An inoffensive favourite for family TV time before dinner.
