This new dating site dedicated to 'chivalry' only lets men make the first move

GROAN.

YOU! DO YOU MISS the old days of courting, where men were men and women were bought and sold like cattle? Try this!

New dating website Chivalry Not Dead describes itself as the home of ‘good old-fashioned dating’, and only allows men to make the first move.

And it gets worse:

Don’t worry ladies – you can indicate your interest in eligible men by sending a ‘handkerchief’ to show your favour and await the messages that will come your way.

According to The Tab, there is an advice page on the site that tells women to let the men plan the first date and pay for it – the men should walk on the kerb side of the road ‘to protect their lady’.

The site was set up by Beth Murtagh, who told i100.co.uk that she felt there was a gap in the market for non-religious sites focused on “romance and long-term commitment”.

Chivalry Not Dead has drawn quite a bit of criticism since its launch, with many calling it both dated and sexist. But Murtagh sees the site as woman positive:

To me, chivalry means that a man respects, protects and cherishes the woman he’s with because he understands her importance, not because she is weak.

So if you’re interested in travelling back in time to 1900, you know where to go…
