AFTER A WHIRLWIND few weeks of Mary Berry’s death stare, baked Alaska dramas and delicious treats by the bucketload, the Great British Bake Off has come to an end.
Richard, Luis and Nancy were the worthy finalists, and each rose to the last challenge of creating a spectacular pièce montée shaped like a windmill.
It was a close race with no clear winner from the outset, but judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood surprised us by coming to an agreement extremely quickly.
Nancy was crowned the winner of GBBO 2014 – yes, she of the wrinkly foreskin baklava.
The judges were glowing with praise for Nancy, with Mary even giving her the high title of ‘perfectionist’:
To win the GBBO, that’s what you have to be, a perfectionist.
Nancy may have been a more than deserving winner, but the revelation in the closing montage that fellow contestant (and breakout star of the series) Norman is writing his autobiography threatened to overshadow her triumph.
People really, really love Norman.
Congratulations to Nancy. And Norman, we’ll be keeping an eye out for that autobiography.
