There could be no more 'soggy bottom' jokes on the new Great British Bake-Off

Honestly, what’s the point?

WE’VE FINALLY BEEN given some insight into how the new series of The Great British Bake-Off is going.

As you may (or may not) know, Channel 4 paid £75m to poach the show from the BBC in a three-series deal.

… Meaning we lost judge Mary Berry and hosts Mel & Sue. :(

Replacing them?

Sandi Toksvig and Noel Fielding are stepping into Mel & Sue’s shoes as hosts, while Prue Leith joins old fave Paul Hollywood as a judge.

Now, given that the show has established such a cult following, people were a bit nervous about the move, as well as the chopping and changing of what fans had grown accustomed to.

And now, Channel 4′s creative boss Jay Hunt told The Guardian the show will be adopting a more “modern” tone, which could mean the end of “soggy bottom” jokes as we know it.

This is Bake Off but with an extraordinarily high calibre of contributors and it’s got a slight Channel 4 feel to it … We’ve got a new tone to it. It has a new comic riff to it and I feel it is modern and future facing. I think it is a show people will love with a Channel 4 spin.”

As far as how they’re all getting on in the tent, he was quick to dispel rumours of tension.

“I was in the tent … for pretty much the whole day and I found the complete opposite actually,” she said.

Chemistry is hard to achieve on television and what I took away from it more than anything else is that there was a natural warmth and that they got on really well and their humour worked incredibly effectively together.”

So there you go now. They’re all bezzie mates. Delighted.

Not entirely what we’re going to do without this naffness though.
