FOLLOWING IRELAND’S PASSAGE of the marriage equality referendum, celebrities and public figures have been tripping over themselves to congratulate us.

On Sunday, Morrissey weighed in on the landmark referendum and issued a statement commending Ireland for voting for marriage equality.

Well, er, sort of.

In a statement titled “Congratulations to Ireland,” the singer wrote:

The people, once again, teach the church. The people, once again, teach the politicians.

He seems pretty pleased with us so far!

What’s that, Morrissey? You’re not finished?

Now, Ireland, please abolish fur farms and factory-farming and transportation of live animals, and welcome yourself completely into the 21st century.

Oh.
