That photo of a dog and an auld lad in Offaly having a pint has been immortalised in a painting

LOOK.

IF YOU’VE SPENT any sort of time perusing the Irish internet down the years, there’s a good chance you’ve come across this rather lovely image:

Last month, we found out that Oscar and Ollie are good friends, and are often hanging around Killeen’s pub in Shannonbridge, Co Offaly together.

At the time, bar manager Lousie Killeen told DailyEdge.ie that even before the photo went viral back in 2013, the pair were close:

The minute Ollie walks through the door, Oscar is straight over to him. Ollie would be a very quiet man but he can’t hide his affection for Oscar. The two of them have such a strong bond.

They’re something of a famous Irish meme, thanks to the adorable hats, pints of Guinness and the look on Oscar’s face like he’s going to say something:

Now, in a fascinating development, an actual real life painting of Oscar and Ollie has been spotted by actor and comedian Joe Rooney

Look at them there!

Joe tells DailyEdge.ie that he spied it at a craft fair yesterday in Drogheda – and inquiries have been made so we can determine which artistic genius produced this work.

Let’s have a quick look at the painting and the image to see just how accurate they were

Pretty damn good.

A breakdown, then:

  • The look on Oscar’s face is just spot on
  • The paw and hand positions are flawless
  • As are the orientation of the pints
  • The Werther’s Original and Pink Snacks are in the correct position behind
  • His little hoodie and hat are lovingly recreated

So now.

Oscar and Ollie, together forever in a glorious painting <3

Update! Drogheda woman Claire Martin has made claim to this stunning piece of art. She tells us did the painting three years ago in an art class, having coming across the original photo on Killeens Facebook page.

She said the photo was a “real moment” between the two lads, and “it inspired me to do my first ever painting”.

My mam is a local artist in Drogheda and regularly showcases her work in local exhibitions and asked if she could put it in the fair alongside some of her work, needless to say I didn’t know the massive response it would get!
