NASA HAS RELEASED a full-circle image comprising of photos taken by its Mars exploration rover Opportunity between 21 December 2011 and 8 May 2012. Throughout that period of the latest Martian winter, rover was stationary on a northward sloped outcrop called Greeley Haven and angled its solar panels towards the sun. North is at the centre of the image below, while south sits at each end, and the rover’s solar panels show the dust that accumulated on it over its mission on Mars.
NASA says that “the panorama combines exposures taken through Pancam filters centered on wavelengths of 753 nanometres (near infrared), 535 nanometres (green) and 432 nanometres (violet). The view is presented in false colour to make some differences between materials easier to see.”
