These images of sand under a high-powered microscope are stunning

Who knew that you were walking on stuff this gorgeous when you’re on the beach?

DR. GARY GREENBURG was a photographer and filmmaker when at the age of 33 he changed paths and earned a Ph.D. in biomedical research.

As a result, he has a very particular set of skills, which he has used to develop three-dimensional light microscopes.

With these microscopes, Dr. Greenburg captures images of common objects in nature, allowing us to see how much more there is to them than one might think.

Sand, for example, is something he has photographed many times, and the results are marvellous.

You can see lots more images, order the photographs as prints, as well as Dr. Greenberg's books here.  He's not taking international orders at the moment, but there are ways around that!
