Sharon Horgan has been talking about how long it took for her to get her first paid TV gig

She shared her very first head shot that was taken in 1991 on Instagram.

SHARON HORGAN IS undoubtedly one of the funniest women we’ve produced. But before she was famous she worked a regular job like the rest of us.

She’s been telling her story on Instagram of how she made it in London and how that at 21 her big break seemed very, very far away.

First headshot. London 1991. I’d obviously worked out that what the industry was looking for in a young Irish actress was multiple piercings and Vulcanesque eyebrows. Worth noting that it took ten years from when this photo was taken to get my first paid job in TV. TEN YEARS. By the time I got these photos done I had been working in Kilburn Job centre for two years so things were really going according to plan in terms of the big dream. The chap that took them used to come into the Jobcentre and one day asked if I’d let him take my photo. So OF COURSE I went back to his flat in Kilburn on my own and did that. He never charged me any money. But he did ask me if we could do another session. I never took him up on it. Thank you man who took my photo. Maybe you were just a really nice guy and not a perv at all. I look at old photos of me and I look at me now with my scars and rosacea and wrinkles and hair loss and I think the only positive is I can literally see in my eyes how stupid I was back then. #firstheadshot

Her many piercings and incredible eyebrows aside, Sharon got the photos taken by a man who asked her to come back to his flat which she did. A decision that not many of us would make now but anyway.

We live in hope he wasn’t anyway.

It is a beautiful shot of Sharon and serves as a reminder that you can plan for stuff as much as you like, but you can never be sure when or even if you’re going to get your break. We for one are very glad that she did.

Given how successful ‘Catastrophe’ and ‘Divorce’ are and the fact that she now has her own production company Merman, we’re pretty sure 1991 Sharon is very proud of 2018 Sharon.

Either way, it’s always good to see how many piercings people had in their youth and how many survived the years.
