Tax bill arrives 60 years after man's death

A French woman has received a tax bill for her grandfather, who died in 1949.

A WOMAN IN France got a bit of a surprise in the post when she received a tax bill addressed to her grandfather, who had been dead for more than 60 years.

The Telegraph reports that Matine Courtois never even knew her grandfather, who died in 1949.

She’s received an inheritance tax bill for €13, which the local tax office said would have been sent out after the outstanding amount due went over €12.

Courtois has said she won’t be paying up, and has asked the tax office to sort it out.

Earlier this year single mother Chang Chong-hui was hit with a €240,000 tax bill following the death of her son in 2008. Her son ran a trading company prior to his death, and his mother was appointed liquidator of his remaining debts.
