TOM HARDY: A fan of beards, dogs, and his silly old MySpace photos. Not a fan, as it turns out, of invasive questions about his sexuality.
While at a press conference for his new film Legend, Hardy received this question from a reporter for Daily Xtra, an LGBT news website:
In the film, your character Ronnie is very open about his sexuality. But given interviews you’ve done in the past, your own sexuality seems a bit more ambiguous. Do you find it hard for celebrities to talk to media about their sexuality?
The question is phrased awkwardly enough, but it also takes a LOT of context for it to make sense.
Coleman is referring to a 2008 interview with Attitude magazine, in which Hardy said he had “sexual relations” with men – in 2011, the actor told Marie Claire that these quotes had been taken out of context.
So with that in mind, you can see what might have prickled him:
But what is your question? I don’t find it difficult for celebrities to talk about their sexuality. Are you asking me about my sexuality? Why?
AGH. It gets considerably icy from there out.
