U2 graffiti, dog poop and man-sized potholes - welcome to FixYourStreet.ie

The new website, aimed at identifying ‘non-emergency issues’ like potholes and illegal dumping, has attracted hundreds of complaints since it launched last week.

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE have logged on to a new government website in the past week to log complaints about everything from potholes to broken street lights to pest problems.

Fixyourstreet.ie allows residents to report an issue either by sending a tweet, an email, or filling in a form on the website.

The service is currently only available in the South County Dublin area, but there are plans to roll it out to cover the whole country. This trial version will last for three months.

Many of the complaints received so far do fall outside the area covered by South Dublin County Council. In fact, there have been problem areas spotted all over the country:

Let's have a look at some of the scourges out on the streets and housing estates of the country:

  • HOLES ON ROAD!

Hopefully Cork County Council will be getting in on the fixyourstreet.ie action asap
  • Not U2 fans?

  • Some little funk

    Folks, catch that little funk
  • Your mission, should you choose to accept it

This problem will self destruct in five seconds...
  • Crazy bike trap pothole

Cyclists and potholes is a common theme across the complaints to so far. Many roads across the country have been left badly in need of repair following the bad weather over the winter.
  • Dead treet

Those dead treets are such a hazard. Joking aside, there are a large number of complaints about trees causing problems, whether they're too large, too small, covering signs or about to fall over.
  • Dead cat

Maybe there's a need for a 'roadkill' category?
  • Pooper scooper

People not picking up after their dogs has elicited several complaints on the site, and is the issue which generates the most comments.

A large number of the complaints relate to dangerous or damaging potholes, illegal dumping and graffiti. Some of those reporting problems have included pictures, but the pictures are very small, almost too small to appreciate some of the problems illustrated.

There is also an option for visitors to the site to vote on the 'credibility' of the complaint.
