No, you can't watch the original UTV on Irish telly any more

But there IS a workaround if you have Sky.

UTV IRELAND LAUNCHED last night. And there was immediate uproar because it replaced The Dark Knight with Pat Kenny.

The revelation – along with the disappearance of the ITN News at Ten – had many viewers wondering if they could still access the Northern Ireland version of UTV, or other ITV franchises.

Sorry, but it’s goodbye Julian Simmons for most of us. Officially speaking you can no longer get UTV NI in Ireland, unless you live close enough to the border to get a signal.

But there IS a way around for some viewers.

Here’s what the different broadcast networks are doing:

UTV NI not on the Saorview channels list. And that’s that. (Although UTV Ireland will be shown, and here’s how to get it if you haven’t already.)

On UPC, the UTV channel has been entirely replaced by UTV Ireland. The network has stated on Twitter that there is currently no way to view the old UTV:

A spokesperson also confirmed this to DailyEdge.ie, explaining that UTV Ireland is now the official channel which broadcasts in this country.

Sky’s official line is that they cannot broadcast UTV NI/ITV in the Republic of Ireland.

This is repeated by UTV NI themselves on their FAQ page.

However, there does appear to be a workaround for Sky customers.

To add ITV, you can use the ‘Other Channels’ list in your Sky box menu. You won’t be able to pause, rewind or any of that fancy stuff. But at least you can watch it.

Here’s what Sky Ireland said when we asked them about it:

However, DailyEdge.ie has confirmed that this workaround is still operating for at least some Sky customers today.

Julian is not lost quite yet.
