TODAY IN THE topsy-turvy world we now inhabit… Vogue Williams is calling for the internment of Muslim extremists.

Yes, seriously. In her column for the Sunday World yesterday, the model/reality TV star wrote that internment camps are a “grim necessity” in the wake of the Manchester and London attacks.

Williams referenced the Muslim former police chief Tarique Ghaffur, who advocates for internment:

This is something that should be decided on by the people, but I certainly agree with it. The only way to stop these senseless attacks is to put any potential threats away.

She conceded that internment “didn’t work” with IRA members in Northern Ireland, but says it’s different nowadays.

In today’s case the terrorists cannot be negotiated with. They want to ruin the western world and they will stop at nothing to do this, so we need to have the same approach with them.

Her column has been greeted with some amount of bafflement and derision from people online:

Vogue has yet to respond to any criticism of her article – but she also mentioned in the column that she is stepping back from social media due to intense scrutiny of her relationship with fellow reality TV stalwart Spencer Matthews.

While I was [on holiday] I casually posted a picture of Spencer, just because I was missing him. The next day 2fm were discussing the fact that he didn’t respond! I feel like I can’t win sometimes and there’s negativity attached to anything I post online.

Vogue Williams: Counter-terrorism expert. This is 2017, folks.
