16 tweets that will make you feel better about booking that smear test

The only scary part is the awkward small talk.

ARE YOU OVER 25? Have you booked a smear test yet? If not, what’s stopping you?

In Ireland, each year, hundreds of women are diagnosed with cervical cancer. Today, I had my Cervical Check - a free, painless, simple service for women in Ireland between the ages of 25 - 60 which can detect the presence of abnormal cells in the cervix. This is quite a personal post, and the reason behind it is to raise awareness. I am trying to encourage everybody to get their Cervical Check done - it literally took me five minutes to fill the form with my nurse and another five minutes to get my sample taken this afternoon. If even one person decides to get their smear test done as a result of my post, I'll be delighted Source: Instagram/thehealthyhappyteacher

Today, Cervical Check released its report for 2014/2015, which found that while more women than ever are availing of free cervical cancer screenings in Ireland, rates vary across ages and counties.

It’s not anyone’s idea of fun, but having a smear test could save your life. Here’s a bit of encouragement if you need it.

It can kind of feel like this

Though you can take it too far

Nurses, would you appreciate a bit of sparkle? Let us know.

Then there’s the old ‘Socks on or off?’ debate

You’re either this gal:

Or the ‘make sure everything matches and has no holes in it’ gal.

It’s just a bit intimate

How many times do you think a smear test nurse has heard “Why don’t you buy me dinner first!”? Two thousand? Three thousand?

The small talk can be hit and miss

And the awkward moments are plenty

But you could try lighten things up with some comedy

Oh, we have fun!

It does feel like an achievement

You’re officially an Adult Woman Getting Sh*t Done. Congrats!

And it’s always interesting to hear what the lads think of it

Erm… Close?

And if you’re still not sure about booking one, this will convince you

Makes you think. Find out more about free screenings here.
