HERE’S A LITTLE reminder that people are essentially sound, most of the time.
When 81-year-old Clarence Blackmon came home from hospital after months of cancer treatment, he found his fridge empty – but he had no way to go out and get food.
ABC11 reports that in desperation, he called 911 and asked if someone would be able to go to the shop and bring him something to eat.
The operator on duty, Marilyn Hinson, knew she had to help him:
He was hungry. I’ve been hungry. A lot of people can’t say that, but I can, and I can’t stand for anyone to be hungry.
Hinson bought Blackmon his groceries, then delivered them with the help of police officers in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
“It was like a little miracle ringing in my ear. I thought, ‘Jesus, you answered those prayers!’,” Blackmon said.
Blackmon will soon have a nurse to check on him twice a week – but for now, Hinson’s kindness means he won’t go hungry.
