There's a little emoji tribute to David Bowie in the newest iPhone update

The newest batch of emojis is expected to arrive later this month.

LIKE THEM OR not, emojis play a significant role in how people communicate in 2016. And Apple’s newest iPhone update is adding a whole slew of new ones:

As well as completely changing the peach emoji (and the world as we know it) they’ve added the long-awaited face palm, avocado and shrug emojis and included women in the range of ‘professions’ available.

But what’s really gotten people excited are the two new ‘singer’ additions, which are clearly inspired by late, great David Bowie.

There’s a male and a female version, with both sporting the iconic Aladdin Sane lightning bolt across their faces:

Nice.

An official date for the update has not been released as of yet, but according to Emojipedia, it’s expected sometime this month. *praise hands emoji*
