Go on Mr Ripple!

THE ICE CREAM man doesn’t just sell us ice cream. He brings us joy. And this man has been doing that for almost half a century.

John Taylor, AKA Mr Ripple, has been doing the rounds for a grand total of 49 years (he’ll celebrate his 50th anniversary next April) – now, at the age of 75, he still takes the van out around Sandyford, Stepaside, Rathfarnham and Dundrum most days.

This week, to thank him for all his hard work, HB surprised him with a ‘lifetime achievement award’ for his dedication to Ireland’s ice cream industry.

And he’s only delighted with it:

Taylor recently starred in a lovely short documentary about his life as an ice cream man and says that while things have changed with the sale of ice cream in shops and supermarkets, he still loves his job:

Everyone asks me how I’m so young looking and that I haven’t changed a bit in years. I just say that I always looked this old, or it’s all the ice cream I’m eating that keeps me looking young.

Here’s to many more years of Mr Ripple. Congrats!
