balls of steel

This famous Limerick artist sold his painting to a local kid for €10 just to be sound

This young lad brilliantly chanced his arm.

YESTERDAY, GALWAY DID their best to impress the judges in the city’s bid to become the European Capital of Culture in 2020.

Today, it was Limerick’s turn.

And they put on quite a party

As part of the festivities, some artists convened in the city to lend their support to the cause.

One of them was well known abstract painter John Shinnors - whose previous work has sold for up to €70,000.

That didn’t deter one Limerick boy, who went up and offered Shinnors €10 for one of the paintings he was working on – and he accepted

Limerick photographer Darren Ryan witnessed the gas moment and told DailyEdge.ie how it all played out:

As part of the Limerick 2020 bid several local artists were painting behind the Hunt Museum with a jazz band and BBQ. All very family friendly. John was one and that kid just liked the painting and offered him a tenner. I nearly choked laughing.

What an absolute hero:

Balls of steel on the kid. His mum contacted me and said he’s hanging it in his bedroom tomorrow.

Well deserved.

The story caught the attention of Limerick’s own Rubberbandits – and it’s gone viral on Facebook

As the lads say:

This here sums up #‎Limerick2020‬ party in the City today

Great scenes.
