A PUB IN THE town of Seaforth, near Liverpool, has gotten itself an interesting new name: The Cock and Seaman. No, really.

The 100-year-old pub, formerly named The Doric, is expected to reopen under its cheeky new moniker in two weeks’ time.

Residents of Seaforth are tickled by the choice of name, to say the least:

A Twitter user living nearby also says the Doric is the “oldest of old man pubs” in the area. Bet they’re delighted.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the pub is being taken on by a chain that runs similarly named pubs (The Cock and Pullet, The Cock and Donkey etc) in other parts of the country.

Edward Atkinson, owner of the chain, said he hoped people would have a sense of humour about the name change:

We’re Liverpool lads, and share the Scouse sense of humour. Our other pubs have taken influence from their locality when we’ve decided on names… So The Cock and Seaman made a lot of sense with the naval history surrounding Liverpool.

If you say so…
