LAST JULY ANDREJA Pejic announced on her Facebook page that she was transgender.

Today, she’s announced that she’s the first transgender model to be profiled in Vogue magazine.

In a post on Instagram Pejic wrote

If at the beginning of my career in the modelling industry or half way through or even this time last year if you had told me that I would end up having a 4 page feature in American Vogue I would have probably told you ‘oh I dunno about that!’.

Pajic was born in Bosnia-Herzigovina just before the start of the Bosnian war, emigrating with her family to Melbourne as a child after spending time in a refugee camp in Belgrade.

She underwent gender reassignment surgery early last year, having spent several years modelling both male and female clothes, and being described as ‘androgynous’.

Last night was an incredibly inspirational and heart warming evening. Thank you to @lgbtcenternyc and @alexisbittar for the invitation. Source: andrejapejic
