WE THOUGHT WE’D seen it all when it came to Irish weddings, and then this bride came along and drove herself to the church in a Massey Ferguson.
Monaghan couple Aisling McCarey and Mark Graham got married on January 4 after nine years together.
Tractors have an unusual significance for Aisling and Mark – they met when Mark was transporting hay on the M50 by tractor and a mutual friend passed on his number to Aisling so she could get a lift.
But Aisling says she dreamed of driving to her wedding in a tractor since she was a child, telling The Irish Post:
I wanted to drive a tractor on my wedding day since I was a wee tot. I’m from a farming background so I’ve driven tractors since I was young.
On the big day, Aisling drove a shiny red Massey Ferguson with her father in the passenger seat, and the rest of the bridal party followed in three more:
Wedding bouquet in one hand, steering wheel in the other. A mighty woman.
Not to be outdone by his new wife, Mark (who now works as a truck driver) arrived with his groomsmen in a convoy of lorries.
Is this the start of a new wedding trend? Will fleets of Masseys soon become the norm for Irish brides? Watch this space.
