PARIS HILTON faces a $35m lawsuit taken by the manufacturer of a hair extension line for which she is the public face.

Hilton signed a $3.5m (€2.7m) deal in 2007 with Hairtech International, the makers of the DreamCatchers line of clip-in hair extensions.

The socialite’s relationship with the company turned sour, however, when Hairtech management spotted the sometime singer, model and actress appearing on television and in magazine shoots wearing extensions manufactured by a rival company.

Hairtech has now filed a case with the Los Angeles Superior Court seeking $35m (€27.3m) in damages from Hilton – ten times the amount she was paid under the deal – claiming her appearance wearing alternative products constitutes a breach of contract.

It further complains that Hilton missed the launch party for the DreamCatchers line because she was in jail, in conflict with what it argues is an “implied term” requiring her to “obey the law”.

Hilton was jailed for 23 days in 2007 when she was caught having breached a driving probation on two occasions.

In the meantime, the DreamCatchers website is still online and heavily features Hilton, including as part of a promotion where hair salon proprietors are offered the chance to secure a visit from Hilton to their premises.

We at Journal Towers believe Hilton’s bad Hairtech day could be the first time that someone has been sued for wearing someone else’s version of someone else’s hair.
